Fantastic Splash, Marvelous Dash

"Two or three races for £5, free flapjack and stash, what a triffic day out from a bunch of Pirates"  The succesful start of the BUR wet- season was greeted by flat calm water & a winter-wonderland scene  @ the NWSC in Nottingham, over 240 paddlers gathering for the much-awaited return of the famous BUR Splash n Dash

With the Marshalls Hut fully-festooned with BUR Pirate logos the crews were greeted with home-baked flap-jack for the Coxes briefing before taking to the NWSC water for a 1750m Head race, the Splash, rowed into a rather gentle head wind.... the first ever race for most of the participants... whilst for some of the more Senior crews it was an opportunity to induilge in various races with an opportunity to change personel at will.

Following a short break, during which Captain Renegade and the rest of the BUR Row-Steady Crew managed to deliver a fully seeded race-draw for the afternoon sprints (the Dash) AND eat several baked potatoes (with beans) the crews took to the water again in ideal conditions for the 750m Dash, completed well before the sun set on what was "a fantastic day out for the whole club".

Big thanks to the volunteers who risked abuse from many quarters to support student rowing, to the coaches and drivers for getting crews and trailers to and from the event safely and above all to the athletes, who helped make "The Renegades' Return "one of the best organised and most fun events we've ever seen here" (NWSC Staff!!)
